Bridal Registry


The selection of a bridal registry should be done early in the wedding planning process (at least 2 months in advance). Bridal registries are a free service available at many department and specialty stores, as well as mail order catalogs. They provide you with the opportunity of pre-planning your new home furnishings and guarantee that you'll be receiving truly welcomed gifts from your friends and family. The registry will serve as a helpful guide for selecting gifts for your engagement parties, showers, and of course the wedding. The proper etiquette for informing your guests about your selected registry is to request your bridesmaids, mothers, and relatives to spread the word. Sometimes it can be noted on shower invitations. It is generally considered rude to include bridal registry information (or the notices provided by the stores) in your wedding invitations since guests are not obligated to give the bride and groom a gift.

If you are concerned about monetary gifts getting lost at the reception or between the reception and bringing them home, designate a special place for checks/envelopes. This could be a basket, box with a slot cut in it, or a new mailbox for your home together!

Selecting the items on your registry should be a joint effort between you and your fiance. Make a point to select items you'd like to receive in all price ranges so guests can select what they like and can afford. When opening your gifts, make sure to keep the card with the gift. Also keep a log of all gifts received (with a description such as brand name in case of duplicates), the name and address of the giver, and the date received. Make a column for the date you mail a thank-you note too. This will help you keep everything organized and ensure you don't forget to thank anyone for a gift.
